I did alright, as it happens. I managed ten books, seven of them from my original list.
As ever, a few books sneaked onto the list in place of others. And I read an additional three books for Women in Translation Month.
I knocked books off my teetering To Read piles, then bought more books to replace the. I’m back up to 140 unread books again.
One of last summer’s books failed to make it again this year. I’m going to read it soon, though, along with the other two from this year’s list that got dropped. I also didn’t manage to read The Deptford Trilogy for Robertson Davies’ birthday this weekend just gone. I’ll save that one for next year.
Here’s what I read.
The Master’s Tools Will Never Dismantle the Master’s House, Audre Lorde (Review here)
Common People: An Anthology of Working Class Writers, edited by Kit de Waal (Review here)
Attrib: And Other Stories, Eley Williams (Review here)
Mortimer and Whitehouse Gone Fishing, Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse (Review here)
The Grasmere Journal 1800-1803 (Folio Society edition), Dorothy Wordsworth (Review here)
Barn 8, Deb Olin Unferth (Review here)
British Forests: The Forestry Commission 1919-2019, edited by Ian Gambles (Review here)
Imperial Reckoning: Britain’s Gulag in Kenya, Caroline Elkins (Review here)
Boy Parts, Eliza Clark (Review here)
Unbowed: One Woman’s Story, Wangari Maathai (Review here)

I forgot about Women in Translation Month when I was planning my pile so read extra too! Thanks for taking part x

You’ve done well. I still don’t know why I’m reading less than usual during this pandemic. It’s the perfect opportunity to get stuck in!

I’m astonished that I’ve done as well as I have. I’m finding that on work days I do very little reading, but at weekends I’m my usual reading machine self. I put it down to the loss of reading time on my work commute and not sitting at a table at lunchtime. I’m not good at balancing food and a book while sitting on a couch, it turns out!

Well done Jan 😊 Such an eclectic selection of reads too. As usual, I’ve read the books but not produced the reviews. Ah well!

I ranged widely this year, it’s true! Picking mostly hardbacks from my piles helped there. How did mixing 20 Books of Summer with Jazz Age June go?

I read enough for both the challenges; I just can’t get the reviews out. But I really enjoyed what I read and I’m considering a round-up post. Even if I didn’t meet the full criteria to say that I completed the books of summer challenge, I got a lot from it 😊

And it’s the reading that matters, after all!

Congratulations on your achievement, Jan! My reading since March has gone here, there, and everywhere because of an inability to focus. But I’ve read quite a few books despite the circumstances, so I’m happy with that.
